Welcome to my Art, I hope you like some of it.
I sell my art through galleries and through this website. Click on any of the art categories on left to see some examples of my art - please note that most, if not all of these paintings are sold. I just love to paint, to capture shapes, colours and tones in a way that excites me and reflects the excitement I get, particularly in the landscape, en plein air.
My painting life's driving force is to be as good as I can be with whatever talents I've got, to constantly try to improve my art through reading, travelling, studying and above all, by painting. I believe a painter should be able to work in different styles, using the constant tools of paint, brushes and canvas, and to see the principles and criteria of 'good painting' in all types of genres- landscape, figurative, still life, portraits.
I am attracted to strong shapes and tonal contrasts, to harmonious colours in nature and to the change that constantly affects the countryside, its buildings, its people, its changing traditions. Hence my interest in old farms, harbours and landscape in Connemara, pony fairs and the people who live in and around these places. Maam's October Fair and the monthly Smithfield Pony Fair are two examples.
